By Aaron Humes: The Opposition United Democratic Party’s official women’s organization, the National Organization of Women (NOW), has said that it is time for a woman to lead.
Three-term Albert area representative Tracey Taegar-Panton is their choice to be the next Leader of the Opposition and leader of the UDP. She would be the first woman to lead the Opposition in the House, though not the first woman leader of a political party – that honor goes to Nancy Marin of the Belize People’s Front (BPF).
Nonetheless, to stanch the “irreparable harm” caused by the actions of Patrick Faber NOW has called on the party’s executive committee to begin the process of selecting a leader – its third such contest in nearly two years.
The organization put on record its zero-tolerance stance toward gender-based violence and acts of violence against women but supports Faber’s request for privacy to sort out his issues.
