By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated Sanitization and Cleaning Supplies to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology (MoECST) at a ceremony at the Government House in Belize City.

MoECST said the donation, which includes children’s masks, disinfectants, hand sanitizers, and liquid hand soap, is valued at BZ$180,691.63.

Leovany Lopez of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints presented the donation to Dian Maheia, Chief Executive Officer in the MoECST, and Yolanda Gongora, Chief Education Officer.

The Education Ministry said the supplies will be distributed during the next two weeks through the district education centers on a needs basis to schools that have applied for cleaning supplies. 339 schools have applied to the Ministry for assistance.

CEO Maheia thanked the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the donation highlighting its timeliness as schools across Belize transition to hybrid learning, said a press release by the Government of Belize Press Office.

“We fully appreciate that schools have been working very hard, principals, teachers, parents, the community, everyone has been chipping in to try to help the schools and to support the schools with the supplies that they need,” said Maheia.

Gongora applauded the church for its endeavor in making this contribution and for its dedication to the safety and the education of the children of Belize.

Lopez said the donation shows his church’s humanitarian commitment to supporting the community, especially during these challenging times.

“These kind donations are possible through the generous contribution of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” said Lopez

The Press Office said that this is one of many donations the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has made to Belize during the pandemic.
