No progress yet in murder of Winston “Tanga” James, investigations continue

By BBN Staff: The Belize Police Department is carrying on an investigation into the shooting death of 33-year-old Winston James, also known as Tanga, who was gunned down in Belize City last Friday.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said today that there are several people being questioned at this time, but thus far, no suspects have been identified.

“We have not definitively pointed out a suspect, but we do have people that we are looking at,” Williams said. “I just, this morning, gave instructions to Mr. Myvett, who is the head of National Crimes Investigation, and told him of certain things I would like to see get done in respect of that murder. Things that I believe may shed some light in terms of who may be behind that murder.”

He said that he is hopeful that when those things are done, police will have a clearer idea of who may be responsible for James’s murder.

James was shot to the neck around 11:00 a.m. on the morning of Friday, January 21, while at the corner of Bishop Street and West Canal. He was driving a vehicle with 30-year-old Marybeth Wade as a passenger when he was shot and killed. Wade was also shot to the arm during the incident. James had reportedly just left his attorney’s office after appearing at the Magistrate and Supreme Courts.

James is widely known as the subject of several salacious live streams posted to Facebook, one of which garnered over 9,000 viewers, where two women argued ferociously over him.
