Belize Men’s National Football Team travelling by road, plane to Nicaragua on Wednesday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Football Team will be travelling by road and air to Managua, Nicaragua on Wednesday for a couple of friendly matches.

The BMNT is to play against Nicaragua on Saturday, January 29 and Tuesday, February 1. Both games will be at 7:00 pm.

Initially, the BMNT was to travel on Sunday for two games on January 26 and 29, but then the Nicaraguan Football Federation (FENIFUT) converted the games into a triangular with Guatemala. However, Guatemala withdrew after being unable to book a flight to Nicaragua. Mexican coach Luis Fernando Tena reportedly didn’t want the team to travel by road. He said it would be too tiring for the players.

So, the plans went back to the original two games between Belize and Nicaragua.

The FFB had no problem that there were no direct flights to Managua and will have the BMNT travel by road and air.

According to Philip Marin, Technical Director at the Football Federation of Belize, the first leg on Wednesday will be from Belmopan to Santa Elena, Peten, by road. From there the BMNT will board a flight to San Salvador, El Salvador, where they will overnight. On Thursday morning, the BMNT will travel by road to Managua passing through Honduras. They should arrive in Managua late in the evening as that road trip should be about 10 hours.

BMNT has been training since last Tuesday in Belmopan, though they took the weekend off and returned to the FFB headquarters in Belmopan on Monday.

The BMNT will return from Nicaragua in a similar manner on February 3.
