By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Norman Anderson rejoined the Belize Men’s National Football Team (BMNT) on Monday after two tests showed he no longer has COVID-19, but the BMNT lost two other players for the same reason.
“(Carlos) Bernardez couldn’t come from Honduras since he tested positive to COVID-19, so we lost him,” said BMNT head coach David Pérez Asensio.
“We also lost (Deshawon) Nembhard who came from the United States because he tested positive on Monday. Covid is not helping.”
Nembhard trained all last week, but on his return on Monday he had to be sent to isolate after the positive test.
Bernardez was substituted by Anderson who had tested positive last week Tuesday at the beginning of the training sessions.
“He tested negative twice, so we have recovered him,” said Pérez, talking about Anderson.
“We are waiting for U-20 player, central defender Kendale Butler. Let’s hope he can make it because Nembhard’s situation happens just before traveling. At least we can include a young player so he can get adapted.”
Butler, who is from Corozal and now lives in Mango Creek, plays for Top League sub-champs Altitude FC.
The BMNT is travelling to Managua on Wednesday, January 26, to play two friendly matches against Nicaragua on Saturday, January 29, and on Tuesday, February 1.
