By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Police Department began this week with a number of outreach activities geared towards strengthening relations between communities and the department.
On Monday, Community Policing Officers attached to the Placencia Police Sub-Formation visited and gave a presentation to students from the St. John’s Anglican Primary School on topics such as COVID-19 Protocols, Bullying, and Theft. The teachers and students welcomed the Officers and showed appreciation to them for the initiative.
Also on Monday, Community Policing Officers in Orange Walk Police Formation conducted school visits within the Zone I area. At several of the schools such as San Jose Nuevo Palmar and Solomon SDA they did presentations on obedience and safety protocols, which were well received by students and teachers alike.
Meanwhile, Community Policing Officers in Punta Gorda, while conducting patrols on George Price Street, Main Middle Street, Queen Street, Jose Maria Nunez Street, and Prince Street, visited several business establishments and spoke with the owners.
These initiatives are notably being conducted at a time when Police Commissioner Chester Williams said that there are almost 300 police officers out sick with COVID-19.
