Belize Men’s National Football Team is on its way to Nicaragua to play two friendly matches

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize Men’s National Football Team (BMNT) is on its way to Nicaragua to play two friendly matches.

The BMNT left Belmopan this morning just before 8:00 on their way to Santa Elena, Peten, Guatemala. From there the BMNT will fly to Guatemala City in two groups leaving and arriving at different times. The BMNT will again split into two groups and will take separate flights to San Salvador, El Salvador.

They will overnight in San Salvador and travel by bus to Managua where they should arrive on Thursday afternoon. The road trip which is over nine hours includes stops at two borders, the El Salvador-Honduras, and the Honduras-Nicaragua crossings.

The BMNT is travelling to Managua to play against the Nicaraguan National Team on Saturday, January 29, and Tuesday, February 1. Both matches are scheduled for 7:00 pm.

The Football Federation of Belize presented the Belize Men’s National Football Team, head coach David Pérez Asensio and assistant head coach Manuel Poot Can on Tuesday in a virtual press conference.

The presentation comes one day before the BMNT travels to Nicaragua to play two friendlies.

The BMNT travelling includes:

Goalkeepers: Woodrow West from Verdes and Isaac Castillo from Garden City.

Defenders: Evral Trapp, Norman Anderson, and Allence Ayala from Verdes, Collin Westby from Altitude, Donnell Arzu from Wagiya, Ian Gaynair from Garden City, Allan Barillas and Kendale Butler from Altitude.

Midfielders: Jordy Polanco, Darrel Myvett and Eldon Reneau from Verdes, Denmark Casey from Garden City, Warren Moss from Wagiya, Nana Yaw Mensah from NY Greek American (USA), and Rene Leslie and Luis Torres from Altitude.

Forwards: Krisean Lopez and Jesse August from Verdes, Deon McCaulay from Rome Gladiators (USA), Michael Salazar from Memphis 901 (USA).

Technical Staff: head coach David Pérez Asensio, assistant head coach Manuel Poot Can, goalkeeper coach Stanley Reneau, fitness coach Dennis Serano, physical therapist Heidy Polanco, equipment manager Herbert Trapp Jr., and Technical Director Philip Marin.

Polanco replaced Thomas Rivars who is indisposed.

Goalkeeper Kenroy Tillet of Verdes didn’t travel as he only has one vaccine shot so far.
