Duo that previously walked free from murder charge will stand trial for attempted murder and several other charges

By BBN Staff: Twenty-three-year-old Deon White and 25-year-old Evian Murrillo, who previously walked free from murder charges for the 2020 murder of Ezekiel Usher, will have to face attempted murder charges and several other charges relating to the same incident.

The duo appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court yesterday for a preliminary inquiry, where the prosecution presented over 20 statements and over 10 documents, over 62 pictures from the crime scene as exhibits as evidence against them.

Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson was satisfied that the evidence was sufficient enough for them to stand trial for the attempted murder of 61-year-old Joyce Edwards. They are charged with use of deadly means of harm and dangerous harm of Edwards and aggravated assault upon Gregory Williams. Their case was committed to the April session of the Supreme Court with the case set to start on April 21.

The Senior Magistrate then revoked their previously issued bail and granted the men new bail in the sum of $10,00 each plus two sureties of $5,000 each.

The incident occurred on February 23, 2020, on Rio Bravo Crescent. The Director of Public Prosecutions withdrew the murder charges against the men in September 2021, due to lack of evidence.
