Man fined $300 after turning himself in and pleading guilty to assaulting the mother of his children

By BBN Staff: Belize City resident Gareth Hemmans Jr., 36, turned himself in and pleaded guilty to his charge after assaulting the mother of his children during a dispute.

Hemmans was charged with a single count of common assault upon the mother of his kids, whom he admitted to slapping twice to the face on Saturday, January 22.

He was fined $300 plus $5 cost of court which he needs to pay by March 30 or face three months in jail. He was also placed on a peace bond and must stay away from the complainant or he will be sent to jail for three months.

The woman told police that Hemmans came to drop off their children on the aforementioned date as per usual, but followed her into her home once he’d done so. Once inside her home, the altercation began and he assaulted her. She made the police report the following day. Police had visited Hemmans’s home after the report was filed but were unable to find him.

He turned himself in on Monday.
