By Benjamin Flowers: Prime Minister John Briceño has offered his personal congratulations to newly-elected president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro De Zelaya.
Briceño attended the inauguration ceremony personally, arriving in Honduras yesterday.
He took to social media today, following the ceremony to say, “Extending my personal congratulations to President Xiomara Castro De Zelaya on her historic victory as the first female President of her country.”
Briceño also said it was an honor to attend the inauguration, and said that Belize stands ready to work with President Castro De Zelaya towards regional advancement.
President Castro De Zelaya, 62, was sworn in as her country’s 56th President earlier today, after winning the November 2021 General Elections.
In her inaugural speech, she promised to tackle corruption, which she says was rampant in the previous administration. President Castro De Zelaya was a former First Lady of Honduras until her husband was ousted in a coupe in 2009.
