First-ever, All-Belizean Mixed Martial Arts event being held tomorrow

Posted: Friday, January 28, 2022. 9:56 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: There have been several Mixed Martial Arts events held in Belize before, but the upcoming event this weekend, Pro FC4: Belizena Amateur Series, is the first event that will feature all Belizean fighters.

The event, which takes place at the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Complex at 3:00 p.m. will feature 7 fights, with the main event being Frank “Mac” Vasquez vs Rahyeem Lambey for the 145 lb Featherweight title.

Breaking Belize News spoke today with Israel Vasquez Jr. one of the founders of Pro FC Belize and matchmaker for the league promised fans a great show as fighters have been paired by skill level, experience, and style.

Vasquez said that the championship bout, “Will be the fight where you will see the most skill displayed because these two guys are very experienced…they’re both very good strikers and they both have good grappling skills. So they will showcase what MMA is about, what it means to be a well-rounded fighter.”

He noted that another match to watch out for is Jaylen Perez vs Kaylen Smith, both of whom are 15 years old and are rising stars in MMA circles. Those fighters will be fighting under special rules for that age group.

Vasquez noted that the arena will only be at half capacity due to COVID-19 restrictions but the first three fights will be on the Pro FC Facebook and Youtube pages, while the main event will be aired exclusively on CTV3.
