Man caught with illegal firearm during police crackdown on gangs is out on bail

Posted: Friday, January 28, 2022. 9:41 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Tonight, 32-year-old Clifford Russel Anderson who was caught last weekend with an illegal firearm is out on bail.

Anderson’s attorney Leeroy Banner successfully argued in the Supreme Court that he should receive bail, which was granted to him by Justice Herbert Lord in the sum of $12,000 plus three sureties of $4,000 each.

The bail came with stringent conditions. Anderson must report to a designated police station in Belize City, three times a week, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. He was also placed on curfew and must remain indoors between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

His next court date is set for March 28.

Police say that on Saturday, January 22, while conducting anti-gang operations, officers found Anderson coming out of a yard on McKenzie Lane with a loaded.38 revolver.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said earlier this week that Anderson is one of three men found with illegal firearms that weekend and that he feels the department prevented several murders by making those arrests.
