Belize Weather: Bundle up and buckle up as cold front affects country

January is going out cool and somewhat stormy according to the National Meteorological Service.

The 24-hour forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies, windy and cool conditions with a few showers, light rain and possible isolated thunderstorms over central, southern and offshore areas today. Then isolated showers and light rain will linger over the extreme south and offshore tonight, with little or no rainfall elsewhere.

High temperatures today will hit 77 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 75 degrees inland and 66 degrees in the hills. Tonight, temperatures will fall to 66 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 58 degrees inland and a chilly 51 degrees in the hills.

Winds are northerly at 15 to 25 knots and gusty; sea state is rough with high waves of five to eight feet. A small craft warning is in effect for gusty winds and rough seas. Mariners are advised to remain in safe harbour.

Tides are high as of 8:44 a.m. A low tide comes in at 1:03 this afternoon followed by a high tide at 7:29 this evening. The sun sets at 5:46 this evening and rises at 6:25 Sunday morning.

The extended outlook calls for variably cloudy skies and cool temperatures with little or no rainfall for Sunday, and a chance for isolated showers or light rain along the southern coast on Sunday night.
