Coach David Pérez makes five changes to Belize’s lineup for Tuesday night’s game against Nicaragua

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Coach David Pérez Asensio makes five changes to Belize’s lineup for Tuesday night’s game against Nicaragua.

The Belize Men’s National Football Team (BMNT) fell in a shocking 4-0 ball game on Saturday night, one goal worse than the last time both teams met.

On June 4, 2021, Nicaragua beat Belize 3-0 in a World Cup Qualifying match in Managua.

Here at home the team was blasted on social media for the worst loss against Nicaragua at the top level.

Ian Gaynair, Nana Mensah, Denmark Casey, Luis ‘Baca’ Torres, and Mike Salazar are starting tonight as Pérez attempts to find better chemistry on the field. Allan Barillas, Darrel Myvett, Warren Moss, Jesse August, and Krisean Lopez will be on the bench.

These two games against Nicaragua are Pérez’s first games at the helm of the BMNT. The Spanish head coach assumed his position last week Tuesday.

Woodrow West is playing in goal.

Captain Everal Trapp will man the defense along with Donnel Arzu, Gaynair, and Collin Westby.

Torres, Mensah, Polanco, and Casey will play in the middle, while Salazar accompanies McCaulay up front.

Changing the 4-3-3 for a 4-4-2, Pérez is opting for a stronger midfield to gain more ball possession with the hopes of pushing the ball forward more times than the last game in which Belize only had two shots on target out of three.

At the same time, Pérez is going for more experience as the five players he is inserting from the start have more international experience than the ones he is benching.

Perez will make substitutions from the following players:

Goalkeepers: Isaac Castillo

Defenders: Norman Anderson, Allence Ayala, Kendale Butler, Barillas.

Midfielders: Eldon Reneau, Moss, Myvett, Rene Leslie.

Forwards: August, Lopez

The BMNT, which is preparing for the CONCACAF Nations League in June, expects to improve over Saturday’s match.
