Moses ‘Shyne’ Barrow is once again Leader of the Opposition

Posted: Tuesday, February 1, 2022. 11:39 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: In time for Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Moses “Shyne” Barrow has been sworn in for the second time as Leader of the Opposition.

While to our knowledge incumbent Patrick Faber has not formally resigned from either the post of Leader of the Opposition nor of the United Democratic Party, he is expected to and has indicated he will; but in any event, he no longer enjoys the support of the majority of his fellow parliamentarians – first deputy Hugo Patt, Barrow himself and his aunt and Queen’s Square area representative Denise Barrow.

In June of 2021, Barrow supplanted Faber following a previous domestic issue after a historic switch of allegiances, but Faber survived a recall convention and went on to regain the support of his colleagues in the House less than three months later.

But after the recent domestic issue with his fiancée that went all the way to Magistrate’s Court before it was dropped for want of prosecution, Faber was once again placed on the sidelines and Barrow once again leads in Parliament.

The UDP’s Central Executive Committee is meeting today and a press briefing will be scheduled on Wednesday regarding the next steps to resolve the party’s once-again fractured leadership.
