Prime Minister John Briceño tests positive for COVID-19 again

Posted: Tuesday, February 1, 2022. 11:24 am CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Breaking Belize News has confirmed that Prime Minister John Briceño has tested positive for COVID-19 a second time.

Sources close to the PM said that he is asymptomatic and doing well despite the diagnosis. Briceño is currently working from home under quarantine regulations and must continue to do so for the next 10 days. It is unknown at this time what effect this will have on the upcoming meeting of the House of Representatives, scheduled for Friday, February 4.

Briceño tested positive for COVID-19 with mild symptoms back in November 2020. Last week he represented Belize at the widely-attended inauguration of new Honduran President, Xiomara Castro De Zelaya. He also attended several diplomatic meetings during that time.

Briceño returned to Belize on Friday, January 28.
