Christopher Bradley, convicted for the murder of 68-year-old Martha Gonzalez, gets life in prison; eligible for parole after 28 years

By BBN Staff: Christopher Bradley, who was convicted for the November 27, 2018 murder of 68-year-old Martha Gonzalez, was handed a life sentence in the Belize City Supreme Court today.

Under his sentence, Bradley will be eligible for parole only after serving 28 years in prison.

Bradley was convicted on September 7, 2021, in a trial by judge without jury before Justice Antoinette Moore in the Dangriga Supreme Court and his sentencing hearing had been adjourned for today’s date to allow time for the social inquiry report and other documents to be obtained. The case was prosecuted by Crown Counsel Riis Cattouse from the DPP’s office, while Bradley was represented by attorney Oswald Twist.

Bradley stabbed Gonzalez twice to the neck, rolled her in tarpaulin and threw her body into a latrine. Bradley reportedly owed Gonzalez some money and she was said to have asked him about it on the day of the murder.

Readers will recall that Bradley was also one of 28 men who back in October 2020 escaped from the Belize Central Prison while awaiting trial for this murder case. When he was captured and charged with escape he pleaded guilty and was sentence to 15 months in jail.
