Man fined for assaulting his ex claims it was just a touch on the shoulder

By BBN Staff: Twenty-six-year-old Mahogany Heights Village resident Raheem Jones was fined in the Belize City Supreme Court this week for assaulting the mother of his child.

The victim told police that she was walking on Magazine Road in the company of a friend when she came across Jones, who apparently uttered a threat but not directly to her. She said that Jones then followed her then snatched her when she reached near the gas station on Youth for the Future Drive and began questioning her.

In court, Jones pleaded guilty but maintained that it was just a soft touch that he used to get her attention. The Magistrate explained that a touch whether hard or soft is an assault.

Jones was fined $250 plus $5.00 cost of court and was given until April 1, 2022, to pay or spend two months in jail for default.
