By Benjamin Flowers: Yesterday, Mesopotamia area representative Moses “Shyne” Barrow was sworn in as the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament. However, the post of Party Leader for the United Democratic Party (UDP) is still up for grabs, and Albert Division Area Representative Tracy Taegar Panton has begun her campaign for the position.
Panton took to social media this morning to send a message to the party’s delegates announcing her campaign and inviting them to dialogue.
Taegar Panton maintains that her track record of service, as well as her leadership skills, are what the UDP needs right now.
“My candidacy represents the change our great United Democratic Party needs at this time. It is absolutely important that we choose a leader that will help us re-establish our credibility as a mass political party; regain the trust and confidence of the Belizean People; and inspire independent voters to give us an opportunity to govern Belize,” Taegar Panton said.
She stressed that the UDP has an opportunity to form the next government after the 2025 elections but to do so the party needs to heal and rebuild.
The UDP has begun its 90-day countdown to host a National Convention to choose a new Party Leader.
