Belize City man dies in house fire

By BBN Staff: A Belize City man died in a house fire that happened on Antelope Street extension last night.

Authorities say that around 10:30 p.m., the neighbors of 56-year -old Nicholas Reyes began to smell smoke and learned that his house was on fire.

Personnel from the Belize National Fire Service showed up and made attempts to rescue Reyes while trying to extinguish the blaze, however, their efforts were fruitless.

Reyes, who was reportedly a mental patient, was positively identified by his cousin following the incident.

The cause of the fire has yet to be identified; however, preliminary investigations have ruled out electrical fault as his house had no electricity.
