By Aaron Humes: The allegations of corrupt behaviour and particularly bribery in order to receive a favorable response to their environmental impact assessment for the cruise port at Port Loyola are still rankling – and, Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Management Orlando Habet told the House, are a concern to his Ministry.
But they remain mere allegations at the moment, he said, despite the imputations of dishonesty against members of the National Environmental Appraisal Committee.
Habet said that he had spoken virtually with Waterloo’s CEO and staff and asked for the evidence in writing, which has not been sent, and there was a follow-up by the CEO in the Ministry which has produced nothing after 60 days.
Until such information is produced, Habet said, he could not authorize any investigation on them.
Waterloo claimed that they were not given a look-in on their proposal to alter the dumping of material dredged as part of the project in vulnerable areas as objected to by environmental groups.
