BEL says countrywide blackout caused by Mexican provider

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) says it restored power supply to the entire country of Belize by 7:58 pm on Monday, February 7.

BEL said the countrywide blackout that hit Belize before 7:00 pm was caused “following a fault at Mexico’s Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE).”

“Once again thanks for your patience and understanding while our teams worked diligently to restore power supply,” said the power company.

BEL commenced restoration in a phased approach in Stann Creek District at 7:15 pm.

Hit by sudden darkness many people enjoyed the starry night sky visible and took some very good quality nighttime photographs.
