Verdes whop Wagiya 5-0 in opening weekend of FFB Top League Closing Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Defending champs Verdes looked like the formidable machine that won the Opening Championship as they blew past Wagiya 5-0 in the final opening weekend game of the FFB Top League’s Closing Championship.

Colombian Camilo Andrés Márquez struck the first goal for the Green Machine in the 10th at the FFB Stadium in capital Belmopan.

Jovan Ramos put them further ahead in the 31st and they mercilessly made it 3-0 in the 33rd on a strike by Mexican Juan Carlos López.

Alexander ‘Pleck’ Peters hit one for Wagiya in the 82nd but it was ruled offside.

Two minutes later in the 84th, Verdes made it 4-0 when Jesse August made good on an Edwin Villeda Bernal cross.

Mexican Villeda sent Wagiya home with five in the bag as he stripped Argentine goalkeeper Miguel Eduardo Garro Bonessi, danced around him, and tapped the ball into the net with his right foot for the final 5-0.

Altitude beat Garden City 2-0 in the first match on Saturday on strikes by Rene Leslie and Colombian Andrés Orozco at the Michael Ashcroft in Independence.

Ian Pou nailed the only goal in Sunday’s first match at the FFB Stadium on Sunday leading the San Pedro Pirates to their first win.
