By BBN Staff: Today, Nicholas Swazo, the man convicted of the 2016 murder of George Street Gang (GSG) boss, Gerald “Shiney” Tillett, was sentenced to life in prison.
Swazo’s sentence made him eligible for parole after serving 30 years, but also deducted the five years and ten months he spent on remand, making him eligible for parole around 2047.
Tillett was shot dead during a dice game on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Someone on the scene identified Swazo as the shooter and returned fire from a licensed firearm, hitting Swazo in the back.
He received medical treatment for his injury while under police guard and was charged later that month.
At his 2021 Supreme Court trial, Swazo, who was represented by attorney Oscar Selgado, maintained that he was nowhere near the scene of the incident when it had occurred. Justice Antionette Moore was not convinced.
Sawzo’s life sentence officially begins today.
