Series of robberies reported in central Belize

By Aaron Humes: Robbers were on the move in Belize City and Cotton Tree, Cayo District in three separate incidents reported on Tuesday.

Just before 10 a.m., 43-year-old Gerson Menendez was robbed by force of his cell phone and wallet containing cash at the corner of Freetown Road and Kelly Street, the robber using a suspected firearm.

Just over an hour later, shopkeeper Rosa Rodriguez of Cotton Tree was inside her shop when three men arrived. Two of them forced their way through the back door while the third waited on the veranda, and instructed Rodriguez to lay on the ground. Rodriguez’s son, 17, was pistol-whipped when he tried to aid her. The culprits searched the shop for money and made good their escape.

Lastly, delivery man Gonzalo Romero of Corozal Town was on Mahogany Street around 12:20 in the afternoon when while making deliveries was approached and robbed at gunpoint of money, a cell phone, and a gold ring for a total value of $1,200.

In all three cases, police investigation continues.
