The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) Women’s Director Iris Centeno who has been in Valencia, Spain, for over a month pursuing a UEFA “C” License coaching course under a FIFA Education Scholarship was featured in a video produced by The Next Generation Sports (TNGS) Academy.

“Every day you have the opportunity to learn something new,” Centeno says in the TNGS video where she is shown coaching a group of young men.

In the video, she states that she is the Women’s Director at the FFB and runs down her career as a player and as a coach.

A TNGS coach says that she has a lot of potential and is a great addition to their staff.

“Today 7 February 2022 makes it one month that our Women’s director ventured into an unknown country alone to enrich herself with knowledge and experiences that will assist us in the development of women’s football in our country,” said the Football Federation of Belize in a social media post.

“Let’s all join in sending her the best wishes and all the virtual support she may need to continue representing us. Your sacrifice will not go unnoticed,” said the FFB.

“We are in a learning stage and we want to develop football in my country, so we are here to look at the methodology, how training is done here, to be able to uplift women’s football,” says Centeno.

“I feel that as a woman it is a great challenge in the football world to be coaching teams since it’s always been the men doing that. We want the girls, or the other women, to believe in themselves, that if they want to be coaches or if they want to be the greatest in the country, that they can do it. Just like the men, we have the same capacity of achieving our dreams.”

“Let’s all join in sending her the best wishes and all the virtual support she may need to continue representing us. Your sacrifice will not go unnoticed,” said the FFB.

The FFB said Centeno is the first and only woman in Belize who currently holds a CONCACAF “C” Coaching License. She also has an FFB “D” License and several FIFA coaching certificates.

Apart from being the Women’s Director at the FFB, Centeno is also the Head Coach of the U-17 Women’s National Football Team and Assistant coach of the U-20 Women’s National Football Team.
