Former Prime Minister Right Honourable Sir Manuel Esquivel passes

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, Belize lost a politician, statesman, leader, and Belizean patriot, former two-time Prime Minister Sir Manuel Esquivel.

Sir Manuel, who had been battling health issues for a while, reportedly died at a local hospital around 4:30 p.m. today.

The Right Honourable Sir Manuel Esquivel served as Prime Minister of Belize from 1984-1989 and from 1993-1998.

Sir Manuel was appointed to Her Majesty’s Privy Council by Queen Elizabeth II which is a life-time appointment conferring the title “Right Honourable”. He also holds an Honorary Doctorate degree from Loyola University, among many other accolades.
