By Aaron Humes: With the land borders now open, the Cabinet mandated that Belizean students traveling to study in Mexico and Guatemala will be given COVID-19 rapid tests free of cost.

In the official Cabinet briefing paper issued today following the meeting on Tuesday, the sole requirements listed are for students to have a valid student identification card as proof of enrolment in an educational institution.

In related news, with Belize’s stock of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine now expired and disposed of, the number of vaccine doses on hand, mostly Pfizer, number more than 262,474. Vaccination numbers continue to lag week by week; there are still more vaccine doses than the number of persons having taken at least one dose of the vaccine (213,352 persons or 49.59 percent of the total population as of February 7); total vaccination figures are at 204,952 or 47.64 percent of the population.
