Minister of Agriculture Jose Abelardo Mai visits ANRI, Royal Mayan Shrimp Farm in the Stann Creek District

Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise Jose Abelardo Mai was today on a one-day tour in the Stann Creek District.

In the morning, Minister Mai visited the Agriculture and Natural Resources Institute (ANRI) where he was joined by the Area Representative for Dangriga Dr. Louis Zabaneh and David Kuan-Chou Chien, the Ambassador of Taiwan.

“The purpose of the visit was to build collaboration within the institute and get a firsthand experience on the agriculture programs implemented in the institute,” said MAFSE in a social media post.

In the afternoon, Minister Mai visited “the Royal Mayan Shrimp Farm where the transfer of Post Larva was witnessed. The Royal Mayan Shrimp Farm has successfully been raising shrimp. The survival rate is very promising and well over what was experienced with the Early Mortality Syndrome.”

MAFSE Communications Director Luis Pook said Minister Mai is interested in the shrimp industry recovery effort.

“If you remember we had problems with shrimp in this country some four, five years ago and the shrimp industry declined,” said Pook.

“So, we’re now encouraging shrimp farmers and producers. They are going through a recovery process and the Minister is checking on that.”
