Tourism Minister defends his sister being appointed Vice-Chair of Tourism Board; directs media to past instances of UDP ‘nepotism’

By Benjamin Flowers: Relatives of two People’s United Party Ministers are on the Board of Directors for the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), however, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations Anthony Mahler says that more attention should be paid to appointments made under the Dean Barrow administration.

Mahler’s sister Marcia Bouloy, is serving as Vice-Chair of the Board, after previously serving as Chairman. Meanwhile, Rodwell Ferguson Jr. son of Minister of Youth and Sports Rodwell Ferguson Sr. is one of the directors on the board.

When asked about the nepotistic implications of their appointments Mahler defended them saying “You can say a lot of things but my sister brings a lot of experience to the table. She is a certified tourism trainer. She is able to give a lot to this country. The same thing with Mr. Ferguson,” Mahler said.

He then went back in time to when Anwar Barrow, son of Dean Barrow was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Belize Telemedia Limited, and Barrow’s ex-wfe Lois Young was made an ambassador and posted in New York.

“And this one on this board and that one on that board and all ministries being inundated by UDP cronies, that’s for you to investigate and look at,” Mahler said.
