Belize City men ‘Facebook snitch’ on themselves, jailed for gang affiliation

Posted: Friday, February 11, 2022. 8:12 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Two Belize City men were sent to prison today because they are gang members.

Shawn Pitter Jr. 22, and 20-year-old Keshawn Willoughby, were arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, each charged with being a member of a criminal gang called the Jerusalem Barn Yard Crips, (JBYC).

Both men wasted no time in pleading guilty to the offense, and they were sentenced to six months in prison. Despite their guilty pleas, Pitter J. stressed that he had a job interview this morning that he missed because he was on lockdown, while Willoughby said that police used old pictures of him from Facebook to bring the charge, as he is currently trying to turn his life around.

Police say that the investigation on the JBYC, has been ongoing since April of 2018, and continued up to February 10. The investigation revealed that the gang has more than 10 active members and operates primarily in the Antelope Street Extension and Iguana Street Extension areas.

During the investigation, police reviewed pictures that both men had posted up on Facebook on their own accounts, where they were displaying gang insignia. These pictures formed a part of the prosecution’s evidence that ultimately got the men sent to jail.
