Coming out of COVID, Westrac looks south for new opportunities and partners

But first, they had to get through the pandemic itself and the accompanying restrictions, not only on movement but also on imports and activity.

Westrac Limited, based in Spanish Lookout, is the nation’s leading supplier of agricultural automotive parts and services – critical to the continuation of the industry from North to South.

Marketing manager for Westrac Julian Thiessen recently discussed the pivot his company made in tough times: “The unfortunate pandemic had an impact on tourism, which incredibly is returning; but, even when that was paused, the need was still there for the grains, the foods and so forth.”

It’s why Westrac did its best to stay open and provide goods despite the squeeze on imports – and that diversity and nimbleness helped both sides, said Thiessen, with the company focusing on its core supplies.

Now, he said, “we’re in a position where we can take the opportunity to grow together with a different part of Belize. So, it’s a helping each other situation.”

That goodwill now extends to one of the critical breadbaskets of Belize – the Stann Creek upper and lower valley, home to citrus, bananas, and coconuts, not to mention other industries such as aquaculture and tourism which will be able to benefit from new product lines in camping, musical instruments and others to support even smaller businesses.

“We’re excited and my word is, give us a chance to impress you…I think our customers might be surprised by all we have to offer,” said Thiessen, who promises to maintain Westrac’s record of excellent service and support.
