BREAKING: Los Angeles Rams defeat Cincinnati Bengals for 2022 Super Bowl title

By Aaron Humes: The Los Angeles Rams secured a Super Bowl championship in their home stadium with a narrow 23-20 victory over the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Cincinnati Bengals.

Points were difficult to come by in a largely defensive struggle with quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Matthew Stafford contending with physical defences.

The Rams led 13-10 at the half despite losing star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to injury, before the Bengals moved ahead with 10 points in the third quarter, cashing in on a long receiving play and an interception of Stafford.

But the Rams’ fearsome defense led by Aaron Donald and Von Miller stiffened and pushed the Bengals back, keeping the contest close until late in the fourth quarter when Stafford and Cooper Kupp hooked up multiple times on the final drive for what proved to be the game winning score. Kupp was named the game’s Most Valuable Player, the eighth wide receiver so honored.

Donald sealed the game with a sack of Burrow at midfield for the franchise’s second title in a worthy conclusion to an exciting playoff tournament that saw most games come down to the wire – and beyond.

The half-time show reunited rap legends Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Dr Dre with lady superstar Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar to light up the Los Angeles skyline.

It was the first time hip-hop acts headlined the Super Bowl halftime show and early reviews say it rivaled Prince’s 2006 effort in Miami.
