Opposition Leader Shyne Barrow calls for removal of Home Affairs Minister Kareem Musa; says he has failed to curb violent crime

Posted: Sunday, February 13, 2022. 6:01 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Following a fatal shooting in Belmopan last night, Mesopotamia Area Representative Moses “Shyne” Barrow has called for the removal of Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries Kareem Musa, saying that Musa has failed to address violent crime in Belize.

Barrow issued a statement following the death of 20-year-old Karina Andrews, who was one of several people injured when a van was hit with a barrage of bullets in Belmopan on Saturday night. Barrow says that he has been continually raising the issue of violent crime in the House of Representatives, but Musa has replied with “elaborate speeches” while murders continue to climb.

“The time has come to accept that the Minister of Police has failed us. Just as the former Minister of Health failed and was fired it is time for the PM [Prime Minister] to find a new Police Minister who can get the job done!” Barrow said.

He went on to say that if the Prime Minister will not remove Musa, then he should resign.
