By Benjamin Flowers: The Government of Nicaragua has sent an official correspondence of condolences to the Government of Belize on the passing of former Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Sir Manuel Esquivel.

Nicaragua’s President Daniel Ortega Saavedra and Vice President Rosario Murillo issued the letter to Prime Minister John Briceno on Sunday.

“On behalf of the People and Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua, allow us to convey our most sincere condolences to the People and Government of Belize, for the passing of His Excellency the former Prime Minister, Sir Manuel Esquivel,” they said. ” In this moment of national mourning, we pray that the family of the former Prime Minister, as well as the People and Government of Belize, may find Peace and Comfort in his memory and enduring legacy.”

Esquivel died on Thursday, February 10. The Office of the Prime Minister issued a notice yesterday that, in honor of Esquivel’s invaluable service to Belize, he will be honored with a State Memorial.

Esquivel was Belize’s second Prime Minister and served from 1984 to 1989 and again from 1993 to 1998.
