Man sent to prison for gang affiliation a week after his brother

Posted: Monday, February 14, 2022. 10:26 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: A 22-year-old Belize City resident was sent to prison today on a charge of gang affiliation a week after his younger brother was sent to jail for the same offense.

Jason Graham Willoughby appeared with his attorney Aaron Tillett in court today, charged with being a member of the Jerusalem Bone Yard Crips (JBYC) gang.

Unlike his brother, 20-year-old, Keshawn Bernard Willoughby, Jason pleaded not guilty to the offense.

His attorney tried to get him bail; however, the prosecution noted that under Section 16 of the Crime Control and Criminal Justice Act, gang affiliation is not an offense bailable at the Magistrate Court level.

Jason Graham Willoughby was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until March 25, 2022, however, he has the option to apply for bail at the Supreme Court.

Police have been on an aggressive anti-gang campaign since earlier this month, with several people arrested and charged for gang affiliation just last week.
