By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “I am pretty confident,” said Jayda Brown, striker for the Belize Women National Team (BWNT) about the game against El Salvador in the World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday.
“We’ve been training during the Covid break, just preparing for a moment like this and especially to represent my country and to be able to make history.
“I am pretty excited, breaking barriers, showing that females have the capability to play football and being able to show young girls that they are able to represent our country, not only men have the ability but also females. And we have power as well,” Brown said in a conversation with the Football Federation of Belize’s (FFB) Communications and Marketing Director Yashmin Juan in San Salvador on Tuesday.
The BWNT play against El Salvador at 3:30 at the Cuscatlan Stadium in San Salvador on Wednesday, February 16, in the Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers.
Brown said the BWNT will be playing their hearts out despite the difficulties they’ve faced before Wednesday’s match.
“So far, the training has been pretty well, unfortunately due to the pandemic it has been difficult. We had difficulty with players … contracting the virus. That was kind of a setback for us. But despite that we were able to overcome the difficulties,” Brown said at the pre-game press conference on Tuesday at Estadio Cuscatlan where the team trained on Tuesday afternoon.
Brown told Juan the BWNT is going for the win.
“We’ve been training extremely hard. We really want to make history, just changing up stuff because there are a lot of people out there, well not from Belize, but there are a lot of people that look down on us and we are here to show them that we are capable and that we are going to win.”
Brown asked for Belize fans to send them good vibes as they communicate with the BWNT through social networks.
