By BBN Staff: This week, the Ministry of Local Government along with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) embarked on an initiative to engage municipal bodies, both City and Town councils, on a number of matters connected to climate change.
The Municipal Climate Resiliency Initiative is geared towards assisting municipalities in adapting to climate change, protecting the environment, and making our communities more resilient.
The tour kicked off yesterday with the Belmopan City Council. Participating stakeholders at the meeting included the Ministries of Sustainable Development and National Climate Change, Economic Development and the Role of Public-Private Sector, and E-Governance.
As Belize continues to experience many of the effects of climate change, including massive erosion, erratic weather patterns, and warming sea waters which contribute to the degradation of the barrier reef, the project and others like it which assist municipalities to better cope with these effects continue to play an important role.
