By Aaron Humes: This afternoon, Prime Minister John Briceño was the first among dignitaries to pay respects as the urn of the Rt. Hon. Dr. Sir Manuel Esquivel lay in state at the Government House, Belize City.
According to the Government Press Office, he took time to express his condolences to the family of the distinguished former Prime Minister, remembering with them the Rt. Hon. Esquivel’s kindness, dignity, and love of country.
Sir Manuel lies in state through today until tomorrow when there will be a formal procession and memorial service at the Government House grounds.
Other dignitaries present include the Acting Chief Justice, the Leader of the Opposition, members of Cabinet and the House of Representatives and Senate, and members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps as well as Mayor Bernard Wagner.
The viewing and memorial will not be open to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions.
