Reports claim fuel prices going up again

Posted: Tuesday, February 15, 2022. 10:27 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: There has been no official announcement from the government, but at midnight tonight, we understand, consumers should brace for yet another increase in fuel prices.

Reports in other media suggest premium gasoline will rise by 17 cents to $12.90 in Belize City (and slightly higher elsewhere depending on additional freight costs) while kerosene goes up by 93 cents to $9.72.

The Government was said to be gathering information for a Cabinet discussion on the best way to manage and hopefully reduce prices, particularly for diesel, but it appears it will not happen soon.

If true, this would mark the first fuel increase in recent memory in which the government did not issue an official press correspondence to announce the increase, which begs the question, why not?
