Belize to play Women’s World Cup home qualifier against Panama in San Salvador

The Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT) will be playing its home game against Panama in the World Cup Qualifiers in San Salvador, El Salvador.

According to the Football Federation of Belize (FFB), the match will be played at the Cuscatlán Stadium in San Salvador at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 20.

Today the BWNT lost 6-0 to El Salvador at the Cuscatlán Stadium and it would have been good for them to play Panama in Belmopan where our fans could provide support.

However, FFB Communications and Marketing Director Yashmin Juan said the BWNT has to be played in Panama due to a lack of stadium insurance.

“Unfortunately the insurance for Isidoro Beaton [Stadium] has not been renewed and therefore it could not be certified in time for this home match,” said Juan.

“As soon as our facility is complete, FFB will be purchasing the insurance for both facilities (FFB Stadium and Isidoro) so that both facilities can meet certification requirements.”

“You would need to ask the NSC [National Sports Council] for that info,” Juan said when she was asked by Belizean journalists why the Isidoro Beaton is not insured.
