By BBN Staff: Yesterday reports circulated that another price increase of fuel, which has been a constant pain at the pumps recently, was due; however, no formal announcement was made via official channels.
Breaking Belize News made checks with several gas stations this morning, absent an official release from the Belize Bureau of Standards, and each confirmed that the price of Premium fuel had risen by 17 cents overnight.
The last price increase was exactly two weeks ago, which saw Premium jump 43 cents from $12.30 to $12.73 followed by another 17 cent increase last night bringing the price of Premium to $12.90 now. At the last price increase, Regular fuel also increased by 18 cents from $12.10 to $12.28.
Drivers are certainly taking a beating at the pumps with no positive outlook as the Prime Minister recently said although Cabinet plans to review the tax on fuel there will likely be no reprieve in prices any time soon.
But could it be the government tried to sneak in the new price to avoid bad press or did someone simply forget to press send on the official release?
