By Benjamin Flowers: There was an early morning earthquake in Guatemala measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale. Belizeans in Guatemela who felt tremors and the after-effects of the quake alerted Breaking Belize News to the earthquake.
The U.K. based publication The Mirror, quoted the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) as saying that the quake hit at 1:21 a.m. local time, with the epicenter in Nueva Concepción,
The earthquake was at a depth of 96 km (60 miles), and there were two aftershocks following the initial tremor, recorded at 1:50 a.m. and 1:56 a.m, measuring magnitudes 5 and 4.8 respectively.
Local media reported there were power outages and structural damages to some buildings. Meanwhile, the effects were reportedly felt in some parts of El Salvador and Mexico.
There was no tsunami warning in the aftermath and thus far there have not been any reports of serious injuries sustained due to the earthquake.
