Belmopan truck driver busted with illegal forestry products

By BBN Staff: A Belmopan truck driver is out on bail today, after being charged with hauling illegal lumber.

Tulio Garcia, 18, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, charged on one count each of unlawful possession of forestry produce and unlawful transportation of forestry produce.

He pleaded not guilty and since there was no objection, his bail was set at $3,000 plus one surety of the same, which he was able to meet.

Garcia is due back in court on April 14, 2022, where he is expected to be provided with disclosure.

Allegations are that on January 28, 2022, on Central American Boulevard, he was found transporting, 139 pieces of Santa Maria chainsaw cut lumber equivalent to 2236.5 board feet, 50 pieces of Nargusta chainsaw cut lumber, the equivalent of 725.5 board feet, 27 pieces of Black Cabbage Bark chainsaw cut lumber equivalent to 417.5 board feet and 11 pieces of Redwood chainsaw cut lumber equivalent to 161.7 board feet for which logging license had not been granted to him by the Forestry Department.
