By Aaron Humes: Cabinet has signified its approval to amendments to Article 32 of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas in relation to the issue of the current implications of who is a CARICOM national.
Currently, that article identifies citizens of member states, “has a connection with that State of a kind which entitles him to be regarded as belonging to or, if it be so expressed, as being a native or resident of the State for the purposes of the laws thereof relating to immigration” (i.e., permanent residents and the like); and companies that are at least half-owned by and domiciled within a member state.
This amendment will be signed at the Thirty-Third Intersessional Heads of Government Meeting to be held in Belize on March 1 and 2, 2022.
