By Benjamin Flowers: Twenty-year-old Odiel Tzul, the man knocked down earlier this month during a hit and run in the Corozal District has died.
Tzul was hit from behind by an SUV being driven by 21-year-old Brandon Acosta while he was walking on the road near the Corozal Freezone on the night of February 9 and held on for six days before dying from his injuries inside the Intensive Care Unit of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) on Wednesday. Reports are that he had remained in critical condition since the incident and died just after 3:00 p.m.
Acosta, who was initially charged for one count each of ‘failed to keep as close as possible to the right side of the road’; ‘drove without due care and attention’, and ‘failed to provide blood specimen’, is expected to have his charges upgraded following Tzul’s death.
