By BBN Staff: A Belize City man accused of hitting the mother of his children came to court with the assumption that she would come to drop the charges; however, she never showed and the court proceeded with his arraignment.
Fitzroy Myles appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court yesterday and pleaded not guilty to a single count of common assault. He told the court that the complainant was outside the court ready to drop the charges, but when court staff called out for her, she was nowhere to be found.
Myles was then granted bail in the sum of $800 plus one surety of the same, which he was able to meet. He is due back in court on April 1.
According to reports, the complainant was speaking with a male relative on Tuesday, February 15, when Myles approached her and inquired what she was doing. The two ended up in an altercation and that’s when she alleged that Myles slapped her twice to the face.
