Belize City Council is preparing to install parking meters

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: On taking office, Belize City Mayor – said that the City Council was thinking of modernizing the city but introducing electric buses, building a central bus stop, improving parking spaces, and installing parking meters in the country’s biggest population center.

Now, the Belize City Council is preparing for the parking meters move.

“Stay tuned for more information about this initiative and public consultations in the weeks ahead,” the Belize City Council posted on social media on Thursday, February 20, with the hashtag ‘#comingsoon2022’.

The accompanying flyer, which said ‘pilot project coming soon’, listed the five benefits of parking meters:

1. Easy access to parking spots

2. Eliminates traffic congestion

3. Brings us closer to our goal of a modern, smart city

4. Pollution reduction (Less CO2 emitted from vehicles cruising to find space)

5. More efficient and equitable use of city parking
