By Aaron Humes: Belizean consumers are now paying approximately seven cents more for a 100-pound cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas.
The Supplies Control Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise has announced a 33-cent rise in the price for gallon for import wholesale LPG to $4.83 from $4.50 in January.
The retail price per pound is now $1.31 in the towns and cities, or $136 per 100-pound cylinder, and $1.38 in rural areas, or $138 per 100-pound cylinder, an increase of seven cents from the January price and the second successive price increase this year.
In the release, the Controller of Supplies indicates that increases in acquisition prices for propane and butane resulted in an overall increase as the gases are mixed 70-30 to create LPG.
