By BBN Staff: A Belize City man was given two fines in Magistrate’s Court today after pleading guilty to two separate charges of theft.

Thirty-three-year-old Moses Guzman appeared in Belize City Magistrate’s Court, courtroom #4 to answer for the theft of a cell phone belonging to one Sherly Barrow. Barrow told police she had loaned Guzman her phone to male a call on February 14, but when she went back for the phone she could not find him. Later she said found him at his mother’s house and when she asked him for the phone, he admitted that he pawned it for $200.

In court, Guzman wasted no time in pleading guilty and was fined $700 plus the $5 cost of court. He has until May 31 to pay the fine or will face six months in jail. He was also ordered to pay Barrow $375 by April 29, or the court would seize and sell any valuables he has to make payment.

Following his case, he was immediately taken to courtroom #5 where he was charged with the theft of the icebox of his brother Renann Blake. Blake told police that Guzman had asked to borrow his icebox and he agreed to lend it to him. However, when Blake asked for it back, he admitted that he had traded the icebox for undisclosed items, but that he would take responsibility and pay Blake back.

In court he pleaded guilty and received a fine of $300 plus a $5.00 cost of court which he was ordered to pay by April 29, 2022 or in default 2 months imprisonment.
